Family Scrapbook Gift IdeaTired of the same old "I want this" and "I want that" from your kids each holiday season with no focus on family  or tradition? This idea is a great way to get your kids thinking about the other members of the family and allows the entire family a few moments to slow down and enjoy spending time together.

Have each person create a scrapbook page for another family member. This can be the start of a great holiday tradition. And after a few years, each person will have the start of a special and memorable scrapbook created by the other members of the family.

  1. Purchase a scrapbook for each member of your family.

  2. Draw names. Put each person's name on a piece of paper and let each draw a name from a hat. This is the person they will create a scrapbook page for. (Keep the identity of each person's selection a secret for a fun surprise).

  3. Gather some family photos in a box. Be sure to include a few of each member of the family. Make copies of your original photos if need be.

  4. Select photos to use. Allow each person to look through the box of photos and make his or her selections.

  5. Think about your subject. Have each person take a few moments to think about the person they are to scrapbook for. Jot down some notes. What do they like? Do  they have any special hobbies? Did you have a great photo of them? Did you and this person do anything special together this year? Is there a family joke involving this person?

  6. Select a theme for the scrapbook page.

  7. Use inspiration to help your family get started. Give your spouse and children a scrapbook magazine with sample layouts to help plan their layouts. Try the links below for scrapbook inspiration.

  8. Have a family shopping excursion. Everyone can create a shopping list and head out to the store to purchase supplies.

  9. Create your pages. Have each family create his or her page. You can set aside time to work together. If you are keeping the names a secret, locate a work area large enough so no one can see each other's progress.

  10. Present the completed pages. Each person should present his or her completed pages to the person they selected. Each family member can add the new page to their scrapbook.

  11. Repeat again next holiday season. Each year your family will have loads of fun looking at and appreciating all the pages in his or her book.
